What is the Microsoft 365 renewal notice deadline?
Short answer: Microsoft does not publish one notice period for Microsoft 365. The deadline depends on how you buy. For subscriptions bought directly or through a partner on a Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA), you can cancel for a prorated refund only within seven days after the subscription starts or renews; after that, turn off recurring billing before the end date so it does not renew. New commerce subscriptions bought through a Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner can only be canceled in the first seven days of their term. Enterprise Agreement and Volume Licensing dates follow your agreement.
Deadlines by how you buy
Direct or partner, Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA)
- You can cancel and get a prorated credit or refund only within seven days after the start or renewal of the subscription. (Microsoft Learn: cancel your subscription)
- After seven days, turn off recurring billing. The subscription does not renew at the end of its term, and you keep access until then. (source)
- If you bought through a reseller partner on an MCA, Microsoft says to contact that partner to cancel within the seven days. Subscriptions bought through a proposal from a Microsoft seller are not eligible for this policy. (source)
Microsoft Online Subscription Agreement (MOSA)
- If you cancel after you start or renew, you receive a prorated credit or refund. (source)
- You can cancel online if the subscription has 25 or fewer licenses. With more than 25, reduce to 25 or fewer first. (source)
Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) partner, new commerce
- New commerce subscriptions can only be canceled in the first seven days of their term. (Microsoft Learn: new commerce license-based overview)
- Partners can schedule changes that take effect at the end of the term. Ask your partner how far ahead they need your decision. (source)
Enterprise Agreement and Volume Licensing
- Your subscription end date might be tied to your agreement end date rather than a single subscription term. (Microsoft Learn: what happens when your subscription ends)
- To renew, contact your volume licensing partner. To let it end, Microsoft says to contact your partner to make sure no automatic extension is in place for your agreement. (source)
- Grace periods can vary by program and product, so confirm them with your licensing partner or Microsoft account team. (source)
Find the real date
- Open Your products. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Billing, then Your products, and select each subscription. Microsoft says the expiration date is shown there. (Microsoft Learn: manage recurring billing)
- Check recurring billing. If you pay by card or billing profile, recurring billing is on by default, so the subscription is billed again at the end of the term. (source)
- Know your billing account type. The cancellation rules above depend on whether you have an MCA or MOSA billing account, or buy through a partner or agreement. (source)
- Track each subscription separately. In Your products you select one subscription at a time to see its details, so give each one, including add-ons such as Copilot, its own row. (source)
Turning off recurring billing is not cancelling
When you turn off recurring billing, the subscription is not canceled. It stays active until it expires, and turning it off also cancels any scheduled changes for that subscription. (source)
What happens after the end date
For most offers in most countries and regions, Microsoft lists 30 days in Expired status and 90 days in Disabled status, then deletion. As of February 9, 2026, the Expired status no longer applies to license-based subscriptions bought directly through an MCA. Enterprise Agreement, Volume Licensing, and CSP timing can differ. (source)
Track it in My Renewal Desk with the free template
Download the Microsoft 365 renewal tracker (CSV)
The template uses the same columns as the My Renewal Desk CSV export, so it imports without changes:
- Open the file in a spreadsheet and replace the example rows with your subscriptions. Keep the header row.
- Set expirationDate (YYYY-MM-DD) from Your products, cost from your agreement, and noticeDays to the lead time you need. The example rows use 0 for cost and 60 for noticeDays, the My Renewal Desk default. Neither is a Microsoft figure.
- Save as CSV, then open the workspace, go to Portability, and choose Import CSV. The preview shows valid, duplicate, and invalid rows before anything is saved.
My Renewal Desk works out the decision deadline as the expiration date minus notice days. Everything stays in your browser.

Microsoft 365 renewal FAQ
Is there a notice period to cancel Microsoft 365?
Not one fixed period. For MCA subscriptions, Microsoft allows a prorated cancellation only within seven days after the start or renewal. After that window, you turn off recurring billing so the subscription ends at the end of its term. For Enterprise Agreement and Volume Licensing purchases, the timing depends on your agreement and your licensing partner.
Where do I find my Microsoft 365 expiration date?
Microsoft says you can view the expiration date on the Your products page in the Microsoft 365 admin center, under Billing.
Does turning off recurring billing cancel the subscription?
No. Microsoft says the subscription stays active until it expires. Turning off recurring billing also cancels any scheduled changes you have for that subscription.
What happens after a Microsoft 365 subscription ends?
For most offers in most countries and regions, Microsoft lists 30 days in Expired status and 90 days in Disabled status before deletion. As of February 9, 2026, the Expired status no longer applies to license-based subscriptions bought directly through an MCA. Enterprise Agreement and Volume Licensing timing can differ.
What notice days should I enter in My Renewal Desk?
Enter the lead time you need before the last date you can act, such as time for usage review, budget approval, and talking to your partner. The template uses 60 days, which is the My Renewal Desk default, not a Microsoft term. For Enterprise Agreement renewals, use the date in your agreement.
